There is one thing I’ve learned over the years that really bugs me, control your kids. I mean I know you want to look good in public and people give you dirty looks when you discipline in certain ways. But frankly, the justified dirty looks come when your kid is screaming and you are doing nothing to control it. This is the only country in which I’ve actually seen people give dirty looks for parents who take their child by the hand and say this is not appropriate and we are going back out to the car, because you are not going to do this. I mean if you’re yelling at your kid in the store because you can’t control it otherwise, there’s a problem. But come on, there is nothing wrong with proper discipline and setting down a line. This being said, kids are unmistakenly blunt. They will do certain things if you let them, and frankly I don’t encourage making them afraid of things. I mean if they want to ask about maybe why my eyes are different than theirs, why I wear glasses, why my skin tone is different than theirs, if I hear them I don’t care. They are exploring and figuring things out. But when they talk about how somebody’s face is covered in those big red bumps, maybe they have disease or something, that is not appropriate and while you can’t anticipate certain things at all times, honestly do your best. People are really sensitive about acne for a reason, and even though kids don’t mean anything by it, it can do more damage than you think sometimes. It’s certainly worth controlling.
