Combining Acne Fighting - September 2nd, 2009

Two common methods for treating acne, or rather one common method and one rather uncommonly used yet sometimes effective method, include both birth control and antibiotics.  Logically speaking deducting things from that, you might assume that if you took them together, they would therefore be more effective in preventing and treating acne.  So of course some have assessed the combination of these two particular types of products.  There are acne specific antibiotics of course.  But there haven’t been a whole lot of big studies, just small ones.  But those studies that have been conducted have shown that actually, antibiotics decrease the effectiveness of birth control.  Whether this means it’s affecting its ability to prevent pregnancy, to prevent acne, or both, who really knows.  But the simple fact of the matter is that birth control pills naturally interfere with the body’s natural ability to use birth control properly.  So unfortunately, if you use the two together, you won’t double your results or anything, you will just create a lot of frustration for yourself.  And frankly, that is certainly not what you want.  So instead try combining the more effective one, birth control, with a really good scrub and otherwise acne fighting regimen that may work from the outside instead.
